Toyota T-TEN program

About T- Ten

The T-TEN program prepares students to be ASE-certified Toyota and Lexus certified Technicians. Graduates will have skills that are in-demand, even in a slow economy, and have the opportunity to take their careers beyond the technician level. The curriculum includes all courses required for the Automotive Technology program and Toyota specific factory training.

T-TEN requires:

  • A two-year commitment to training
  • Entry exam in addition to the college’s COMPASS assessment
  • An internship before graduation (students alternate 8 weeks in classroom/lab and 8 weeks at a dealership)
  • Eight ASE tests.

T-TEN trains and develops quality technicians who are in demand. By partnering with hundreds of dealerships and community colleges and vocational schools nationwide, T-TEN combines classroom study and hands-on dealership experience. Students work with the latest technology, tools and equipment and graduate with Toyota and industry certifications. T-TEN graduates thrive in high-paying careers working on some of the leading vehicles in the country.

T-TEN is a world class training program with the ultimate goal of training and placing Toyota and Lexus certified technicians in a dealership position.

Toyota also has provided Jefferson with the latest technology, so training is current.

Certification

T-TEN graduates are confident and productive technicians-with Toyota and industry certifications that separate them from the crowd.

Students in Jefferson’s T-Ten Program will receive a two-year Associate Degree. Students combine automotive technology instruction with general education courses to earn an A.A. degree. This provides the highest long-term earning potential among T-TEN programs.

All T-TEN students participate in an internship during their time in the program. Securing an internship is similar to finding a job. Your T-TEN instructor will guide you through the process. Each dealership has its own hiring procedures but most will require:

  • A resume outlining your work and educational background
  • A completed application
  • A copy of your driving record from your state's department of motor vehicles

Most dealerships also require applicants to pass a drug test.

Certifications are earned by T-TEN graduates for completing Toyota-designed courses and for passing National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification tests. These certificates are widely recognized within the industry and allow technicians to earn more money and gain increased responsibilities. Certifications vary depending on the program selected.

Once you graduate from the T-TEN program, you will be eligible to pursue a career in a Toyota, Lexus or Scion dealership. Toyota supports the concept of lifelong learning and encourages career progression through educational opportunities and workplace experience. While you will begin as an entry-level technician, through hard work, experience, continued training and achievement of both ASE and Toyota certification, you can advance to higher-level positions.

Toyota Technician Certification

There are four levels of certified technicians at Toyota. Each successive level requires more education and carries additional responsibilities. Dealerships typically increase pay scales as technicians climb through the levels.

Earn a Great Income

Some highly skilled and highly motivated Toyota and Lexus technicians earn more than $70,000 each year. Experienced technicians earn average annual wages of more than $66,000. Entry-level dealership technicians earn an average of $28,000, according to a 2005 survey by the National Automobile Dealers Association.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, service technicians earn higher wages working in new and used car dealerships than in independent repair shops.

T-TEN helps place students into entry-level dealership positions and also accelerates their career and earning power.

Work with a skilled team

T-TEN students work at dealerships with the support of a Toyota mentor and other team members.

Dealership internships are a major part of the T-TEN program. Internships match students with experienced technicians who serve as mentors. Students learn technical skills and develop good work habits through their mentor's guidance. Once hired, T-TEN graduates can work as part of a skilled technician team or independently under the continued supervision of an experienced shop foreman to provide for continued skill development along with the camaraderie and satisfaction of working on a dedicated team.

Work with innovative Technology

Toyota is a market leader in sales and a technology trailblazer. Its hybrid system is environmentally friendly and popular with consumers.
