Single Parents Support Group

Purpose Statement:

The Single Parent Student Organization was formed to offer support to single parenting students at JCTC.  By helping students deal with the challenges of single parenthood, we believe that retention can be enhanced as well as the life skills of a substantial portion of the campus population.

Group meetings are held with a college counselor, in which students discuss issues and concerns, as they learn effective strategies for coping.  Group guidelines such as confidentiality and a positive, nonjudgmental atmosphere are applied at all meetings.

By sharing life experiences with others in a helping and caring environment, each student can gain more knowledge and self-confidence to provide a better life for their children and themselves.

Group meetings are open to any Jefferson Community and Technical College single parenting student (male or female).

The following issues/concerns were selected by the student parents as being significant in their daily lives:

  • Child Care
  • Campus Resources
  • Community Resources
  • Finances
  • Employment
  • Family
  • Healthy Relationships
