Jefferson Community and Technical College has appointed Donna M. Elkins, Ph.D., dean of Academic Affairs at the Southwest Campus. She brings nearly two decades of experience in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to the post.
The former Division Chair of Humanities on the Southwest Campus began her new role on July 1, succeeding Katy Varner, Ed.D, who retired following a decade of distinguished service as dean.
“Donna Elkins experience at Jefferson and throughout KCTCS makes her well positioned to bring the faculty and students of the Southwest Campus to the next level of excellence” said Dr. Tony Newberry, president and CEO of Jefferson.
Elkins taught at Maysville Community College for eight years. She has been with Jefferson since 2002 and has served in various leadership roles including Department Head of Communications and Coordinator of Institutional Research.
“During my past 10 years on this campus I have seen the hard work and dedication the faculty and staff provide our students. My goal is for the Southwest Campus to continue as learning and growing environment for all of our students and for the southwest Jefferson community,” Elkins said.
Elkins earned a doctorate in Interpersonal Communications from the University of Kentucky, a master’s in political science from the University of Louisville and a masters in Mass Communications from Morehead State University.
As an instructor, Elkins also has held teaching positions at University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Lexington Community College, and the University of Louisville. Before teaching, she was a reporter for the Maysville Ledger Independent and served as a grant writer for several government and educational organizations.
