JCTC and Cox Media Group Honor Exceptional High School Seniors
Jefferson Community and Technical College in partnership with Cox Media group awarded three scholarships to area high school seniors as part of the second annual Exceptional Student Scholarship Awards.
This one-of-a-kind scholarship program awards a $500, $1,000 and $2,000 scholarships used towards future education at JCTC. Students can qualify for the scholarships through a parent, teacher or high school counselor s nomination.
Starting in October, Cox Media Group radio stations began to spotlight one male and one female high school student as finalists for the scholarships.
Courtney Brewer, a senior at Fern Creek Traditional High School, received the $500 scholarship. Courtney is involved in Peer Tutoring and the Principles Honor Counsel as well as ROTC. She plans to attend Jefferson in the fall as an Education major.
Butler Traditional High School Senior, Danielle Teague received the $1,000 award. Danielle, who serves as a Peer Tutor and volunteers at The Louisville Zoo and The American Heart Association will be attending JCTC in the fall as a Criminal Justice major.
Haley Johns, Bullitt Central High School Senior, was the recipient of the $2,000 scholarship. Haley is involved in the National Honor Society, a Senior Class representative for the Student Government Association and plays on the girls varsity basketball and soccer team. Haley plans on majoring in one of Jefferson s Allied Health and Nursing Programs.
The scholarship awards received their award at a banquet on April 9 on the Ice House in Louisville. All 45 finalists were also honored for their achievements.
