Longtime Jefferson professor, Pam Besser, dies

Jefferson Community and Technical College is mourning the death of Dr. Mary Pamela Pam McAdam Besser, who lost her battled with cancer on Oct. 20.

Besser was a tenured professor at Jefferson and chair of the Business Department. She previously served as interim Academic Dean, Her lengthy teaching career included teaching assignments at the University of Louisville and the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale.

She earned an undergraduate degree in English, a Masters Degree in Mathematics, and a Doctorate in Rhetoric.

She was the author of several best-selling textbooks in English Grammar and Medical Terminology. She was loved and respected by her academic colleagues and her many students.

Besser was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Rita McAdam, and by her companion, Lisa Powell. She is survived by her son, Lawrence W. Besser Jr. (Stephanie); her grandson, Zachary Besser; and her former husband, Lawrence W. Besser Sr. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas A. McAdam (Peggy), her sister, Alicia L. McAdam (Don); and her nephew, Tom McAdam. Among her many colleagues and devoted friends, she is survived by her dear friend, Carol Land.

A service to celebrate the life of Dr. Besser will be at 1:30pm Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
