Bruce Feiler, author and adventurer, will present Sacred Journeys: An Evening with Bruce Feiler at 7:00pm April 8, 2015, at Jefferson Community and Technical College.
The free program, sponsored by JCTC as part of the college's annual Unity Arts Festival, is open to the public. Registration is required at http://sacredjourneys.eventbrite.com
Feiler will present anecdotes and observations obtained during his time creating Sacred Journeys for PBS, which aired last year. In the series, Feiler accompanies American pilgrims from Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim and Yoruban traditions as they explore the places and traditions sacred to their religions.
I went on six pilgrimages in 12 months, Feiler said, bathing with 100 million people in the Ganges, walking the Jesus Trail in the Galilee, trekking on a 700-mile Buddhist trail in Japan. The experience was life-changing and life-affirming, and the footage is mind-blowing.
Since 2001, Feiler has been one of the country's preeminent thinkers, writers, and speakers about the role of religion in contemporary life. Walking the Bible describes his perilous, 10,000-mile journey retracing the Five Books of Moses through the desert. It spent more than a year and a half on the New York Times bestseller list, has been translated into fifteen languages, and is the subject of a children s book, a photography book, and a miniseries on PBS.
He also is the author of Abraham , which recounts his personal search for the shared ancestor of Jews, Christians, and Muslims; Where God was Born about his year-long trek visiting biblical sites through the front lines of Israel, Iraq, and Iran and four other books. He has written for numerous publications, including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Gourmet, where he won three James Beard Awards. He is also a frequent contributor to NPR, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and Fox News.
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Bruce lives in Brooklyn with wife, Linda Rottenberg, and their identical twin daughters.
