Dr. Reneau Waggoner Returns to Jefferson
LOUISVILLE, KY (August 9, 2021) — A familiar face to Jefferson Community and Technical College is “coming home” to serve as the college’s top academic leader.
Dr. Reneau Waggoner is returning to Jefferson this fall to take over the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs after her predecessor, Diane Calhoun-French, retired with more than 41 years at the College.
“I am so pleased to have Dr. Waggoner returning to Jefferson as the Vice President for Academic Affairs,” President Ty Handy said. “She brings experience and talent to the role and I’m certain she will begin contributing to our student success immediately.”
Waggoner began her career at Jefferson more than 20 years ago as a developmental advising coordinator, went on to serve as a chair of the reading and academic success division and professor within the Humanities division for more than 12 years, and served as chair of several student success initiatives and grant projects.
After gaining valuable experience at Jefferson and obtaining her doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky in 2016, Waggoner earned the opportunity to serve as the Chief Academic Officer of Henderson Community College, one of the 16 community colleges forming the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS).
About a year into serving as the Chief Academic Officer at Henderson, Waggoner was promoted to Provost in 2018. For more than three years she has been the top leader of academic affairs, student affairs, Workforce Solutions and Skills U adult education for the College.
“I am excited to return home and work with Dr. Handy and the Jefferson family to continue the great legacy of Dr. Diane Calhoun-French,” Waggoner said. “By focusing on student success initiatives, supporting faculty, staff and students, advancing the diversity, equity and inclusion work and embracing innovation, I’m confident we will create many opportunities for us to grow together.”
Dr. Telly Sellars, Associate Vice President of Technical Education, is serving as the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs until Waggoner assumes the role officially on October 18, 2021.
