A Jefferson Love Story: Couple Who Met in Hartford Hall Still Going Strong 35 Years Later
Published on Feb 17, 2026
In 1986, when Jefferson was known as JCC and the College was just two campuses, a
love story began that is still unfolding today.
A moment in December of that year, near the elevators of Hartford Hall, led to a lifetime connection between Kevin and Lee Anne Welch when an unexpected matchmaker, Kevin’s ex-girlfriend, introduced them. It’s a connection that continues to stand the test of time, even as Jefferson prepares to say goodbye to Hartford.
“We ride by on I-65 and tell our grandkids, ‘That’s where we met!’” said Lee Anne. “It’s sad to see Hartford go, but it’s amazing to see how Jefferson has grown from the little campus we knew.”
Nearly 35 years of marriage, two children, and countless memories later, both Kevin and Lee Anne built successful careers after starting their journeys at Jefferson. Today, their Jefferson story continues as their daughter Lauren attends the College, beginning her own chapter.
