Carrollton Campus Unveils Partnership with Leading Industries Along Highway 42

CARROLLTON, KY— Jefferson Community and Technical College President Ty Handy joined industry leaders and community members in celebrating the coming together of the area’s major employers in an effort to fill high-paying jobs in the JCTC Carrollton Campus service area.

Dow Chemical, KU/LG&E, North American Stainless, Nucor and PMC are enhancing their existing partnerships with the College through a new effort dubbed Future 42. This alliance of businesses, which all sit along Highway 42, aims to create a brighter future for the community by growing a skilled workforce through cutting-edge education and training provided by the College.

“This signing is a celebration of the strengthened link between our community, employers and the College,” Handy said. “This exemplifies the commitment we have to growing a skilled workforce through degree tracks that will result in great jobs right here in our area” Dozens of high school students took part in a Future 42 signing ceremony, where they pledged to begin pursuit of a career in advanced manufacturing that could lead to employment with the member employers. Programs include Engineering and Electronics Technology, Applied Process Technologies, General Occupational Technical Studies and Welding.

The five companies have a long-standing relationship with JCTC’s Carrollton Campus by providing internships, co-ops and job placement at their respective sites. However, each is struggling to fill high-skilled, high-wage positions. In recent months, the College and its partners agreed to align recruiting efforts and increase visibility in the community.
