CAT Students Take Home Honors at Advertising Awards

Students from Jefferson Community and Technical College’s Communication Arts Technology (CAT) program racked up many honors at this year’s American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards Gala on Thursday, Feb. 28 at Glassworks in downtown Louisville.

The CAT program at Jefferson is widely known as one of the premier programs of its kind in the region, and once again, it has the hardware to back it up.

Five Jefferson CAT students took home 10 ADDY awards, including two Gold Judges’ Choice Awards, two Gold ADDY’s and six Silver ADDY’s, the largest haul for any school in the competition.

“I am especially proud of this group of students for being chosen as having some of the best student work in the Louisville area this year,” Communication Arts Professor Terry Lutz said. “The students have been such a joy to work with throughout their tenure at Jefferson, and that not only makes my job easier, it makes it a lot more fun.”

Breakdown of CAT student award winners:

Frida Gonzalez won a Gold ADDY for her Greeting Cards Series. This entry also garnered her a Gold Judges' Choice Award. She also claimed a Silver ADDY for her Frida Kahlo Illustration.

Jesenia Avila-Ugalde, Dang Nguyen, Sara Klapheke and Frida Gonzalez won a Gold ADDY for their CATP Annual Report, a group project from their Advertising Design IV class. This project also won one of the coveted Gold Judges' Choice Awards.
