Academic team finishes season fifth for third year in a row
After losing their two top individual scorers last season, Jefferson Community and Technical College's Academic Team thought they were headed for a rebuilding year. Then at the Community College Championship tournament, the team scored two big wins against top teams and secured another fifth place overall finish. I am thrilled with our accomplishments this year said Coach Pete Rodski. We entered as the 14th ranked team and finished the tournament a few questions away from finishing in the top two.
This is now the third year in a row that Jefferson earned a fifth place finish, out of 24 teams that compete nationally. Rodski said, there are only two other community colleges in the country that have finished in the top five for three years in a row.
The field was so closely matched, every game was close said Eric Bradley, second year player. Bradley finished 12 in individual scoring in the country with 37 points per game.
Rounding out the tournament team this year were Marion Eicholtz, Bradon Beavon and Katie Edwards, all who finished in the top 100 in individual scoring.
Kim Bentley, Joseph Moffett, Sean Burba, Alisha Wheat, Cody Young, William Edwards, Jordan Woosley, Jason White, and Holly McTaggart also competed this season.
New to this team this year as an assistant coach was Liz Boyd, assistant professor in the Technology and Related Solutions department. Biology Instructor Amy Sprinkle served as an assistant coach for the second year as well.
Most of the 13 players that competed this year are expected to return next year.
We really have something special going on here and I could not be prouder of the team said Rodski.
