FAME enrolling for second cohort

The first students of KY FAME's earn-while-you-learn Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) are in their second semester. I see a lot of potential in the future, said student Austin Kennedy, excitedly. It makes me take the AMT program seriously because it s a great opportunity.

Austin and 10 other students are part of the two-year program that teaches recent high school graduates the skills needed for a successful career in manufacturing. Students are sponsored by local companies like GE Appliances and nth/works, where they spend part of their week working and earning money. The other half of the week they develop skills in JCTC's hands-on lab. With the help of a teacher and trainers, students learn subjects like maintenance, safety and electricity.

Austin, a recent graduate of Bullitt Central, works at Clariant. I m very proud him, said Austin s father, Dave Kennedy.

A benefit of the program is that students experience the real-life applications of what they learn as part of the AMT program's curriculum. I like being able to take what I learn in the classroom and apply it to my job in training and maintenance, said AMT student Megan Henry, who is sponsored by GE Appliances. Everything I'm learning in the AMT program I can use in the real world.
