JCTC names new chief fundraiser

Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Don Schieman as the college s chief fundraising officer. Schieman will join JCTC on August 29 and brings with him more than 30 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.

The Louisville native currently serves as the state director of the March of Dimes in Kentucky and West Virginia, where he oversees fundraising and delivery of programmatic services throughout the two states. Prior to his appointment at March of Dimes, Schieman worked at the Metro-Louisville Baptist Hospital Foundation as the chief operating officer. He has also served as Vice President of Marketing for the Kentucky Derby Festival, Inc. where he increased sponsorships to in excess of $3 million, accounting for almost half of the festival s annual revenue.

I believe that this position is an opportunity to help JCTC continue to be an important part of meeting the needs of the community, said Schieman. Through fundraising, we will be able to make it easier for someone to attain a degree or certification that allows them to get a job or helps their family prosper then we will positively impact our community.

JCTC President Ty Handy announced the hire.

I am excited for Don to join the college s leadership team. He will bring a proven track record of fundraising to JCTC, said Handy. His background and experiences will allow the college to take another step forward in fundraising, which will positively impact the lives of our students.

In addition to overseeing the JCTC's fundraising efforts, Schieman will be responsible for the college's Institutional Research and Grants and Contract departments.

Schieman will bring his experiences in evolving fundraising programs to achieve the next level along with the current talented team. We will work to move JCTC forward, building programs that enhance students' opportunities and improve their educational experience said Schieman.

Schieman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Bellarmine University and has been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, and is currently a member of the Fundraising Executives of Metro Louisville.
