JCTC student receives prestigious scholarship
Chosen from 900 applicants worldwide, Jefferson Community and Technical College student Richard Myers has been selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship as a 2014 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program provides Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources while enrolled in associate degree programs.
Myers will graduate in May 2015 with his Associates in Applied Science. He plans on transferring to a four year college or university to earn his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship reminds me that hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance truly pay off said Myers. This scholarship serves as a compass in my educational journey.
In addition to Phi Theta Kappa, Myers has been involved in several student organizations including the Academic Team, Single Student Parent Organization, Pathways to Freedom and the Peer Mentor Program.
Jefferson has become a true cornerstone in the foundation of my educational endeavors and the fellowship I have found at JCTC has made me come alive said Myers. My professors have given me so much support that many are like family.
Independent judges evaluate the applications based on scholastic achievement, community service and leadership potential. This year 207 Phi Theta Kappa members were awarded scholarship money. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides $200,000 in funding for the scholarships, with $25,000 set aside for members who are veterans or active members of the U.S. military.
