JCTC to honor students at annual awards ceremony April 20
Departments will bestow honors and recognition on deserving Jefferson Community and Technical College students at the college's annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony Wednesday, April 20, on the JCTC Downtown Campus.
Each year at the ceremony, departments recognize graduating sophomores who have displayed academic excellence and a commitment to the discipline. Students also receive honors for academic achievement based on GPAs.
This ceremony is one of the college s most anticipated traditions, said Dr. Diane Calhoun-French, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. Celebrating student achievement and seeing the joy in students as they reach their goals and dreams are among the most rewarding things we do.
This year 68 students will receive department awards and other special recognition, and 382 will be recognized with GPA Awards, including 41 students with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Students are recognized as President's Scholars for a 4.0 cumulative GPA, and with High Distinction for a GPA between 3.6 and 3.99, and Distinction for a GPA between 3.4 and 3.59.
The other special recognition includes students who have earned other honors throughout the year, including as members of JCTC Academic Team, which won a national title this year; Communication Arts Technology students who earned Advertising Federation contest awards; and African American Students of Excellence Awards.
More than 100 students are expected to participate in the ceremony, which will begin at 7:00pm in the Hartford Hall Auditorium. It will be followed by a reception prepared by members of the JCTC Culinary Arts program.
