PRESIDENTIAL PROFILE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE NAMED IN SEARCH FOR NEXT JCTC PRESIDENT

The presidential profile development committee to assist in the search for the next president of Jefferson Community and Technical (JCTC) was formally named April 6 by Lynn Fischer, chair of the JCTC Board of Directors, and Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) President Jay Box.

Comprising community leaders and JCTC faculty and staff, the committee is scheduled to begin its work later this month.

Fischer, CEO and founder of Catalyst Learning, is leading the committee. Joining her, representing key constituencies for the college, are community members:

  • Libby Adams, executive director, Shelby County Industrial and Development Foundation
  • The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor (2001-2009)
  • Donald Lassere, CEO, Muhammad Ali Center
  • John Marshall, chief equity officer, Jefferson County Public Schools
  • Tom Quick, vice president, Human Resources, GE Appliances, and member JCTC Foundation Board of Directors
  • Sam Rechter
  • Ted Smith, chief innovation officer, Metro Louisville
  • Mary Gwen Wheeler, executive director, 55,000 Degrees

Representing the college from multiple disciplines, services and campuses:

  • Ishmon Burks, program coordinator, Criminal Justice, Jefferson Technical Campus
  • Adam Elias, director, E-Learning
  • Angela Johnson, director, Financial Aid
  • Mickie Karcher, JCTC Mathematics Committee chair and Southwest Campus math learning lab coordinator, JCTC Southwest Campus
  • Lisa Stethen, academic administrator, JCTC Carrollton Campus
  • Stacy Taylor, associate professor and English Department head, JCTC Downtown Campus

The search process begins with the development of the presidential profile or key qualities expected of the next president. This work forms the basis for a national ad. The committee's work will continue into the summer as the list of candidates is narrowed. In early October, the top three candidates will be invited to the college for interviews with faculty, staff, students and community members.

The JCTC Board of Directors ultimately recommends the final candidate to KCTCS President Box. The next JCTC president is expected to be in place by no later than January 1, 2016.

To assist our region in accomplishing its education, jobs and economic development goals, the Board of Directors and Foundation Board have set a goal for Jefferson to become a world class community and technical college, Fischer said. Our new leader will drive the achievement of this vision. Our boards are honored that this highly accomplished and thoughtful group of community leaders is dedicating their time, knowledge and experience to help us identify Jefferson's next president. The college is on a positive trajectory and we are out to attract the best leader in the country.

Tony Newberry, president of JCTC since 2002, announced his retirement Feb. 13.
