Academic Teams Place Top 15 at 2020 Nationals

Both our academic teams had good performances this past weekend in Orlando, Florida at the Community College Championship Tournament.  Jefferson’s A team finished 7th, and our B team finished 14th in the country.

Our A team went 4-1 on Friday night to advance to the top bracket (elite 8) for the 9th straight year.  We had 2 tough losses early Saturday (giving up a lead in the 2nd half) which hurt our chances for a championship, but we still played well in a really, really tough field.

Our B team won two matches on Friday night, then won a tiebreaker match early Saturday to advance to the middle bracket of 8 teams, and finished with the most wins ever (5) for a Jefferson B team at nationals.  14th is also the highest finish ever for a Jefferson B team at the CCCT.

Valencia College hosted the tournament and won it.

The following students competed for Jefferson:

A Team:  Morgan Williamson, Reece Tomlinson, Eli Marks, and Cameron Lloyd.

B Team: Abey Hicks, Noah Carter, Faith Lee, and Ashton Burroughs.

They all put in a tremendous amount of time over the year practicing and competing for Jefferson.

The team was coached again by Peter Rodski, with help from Jessi Duff who assisted in coaching this year and coached the B team to their highest finish ever this past weekend.

Jefferson hosted 4 tournaments this year, which really helped our students get better.
