Nationals (2012)
Jefferson's Quick Recall Team heads back to nationals
With a decisive victory on January 21, 2012, the Jefferson Community and Technical College Quick Recall Team earned a bid to the national tournament, marking the team s second straight national appearance. The team, coached by Pete Rodski, professor of mathematics on the Southwest Campus, posted perfect 9-0 scores at the Kentucky Regional tournament on the Downtown Campus, competing against teams from Illinois and Kentucky. The win secured a spot for Jefferson in the 2012 Community College Championship Tournament on February 24th and 25th at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida.
With 59 community colleges reporting results from regional play, Jefferson's team now ranks 4th best in the country. Jefferson had 3 of the top 5 individual scorers:
-
Scott Zweydorff scored the second most points per game (65.64),
-
David Slaughter was third (33.02 ppg) and
-
Scott Stallings finished the day fifth in individual scoring (29.22 ppg).
The team is rounded out with Meghann Wright, Jherin Tinker, and Claudia Botts.
It is nice to be ranked in the top 5, but until we go down there and compete, rankings don't mean anything. They don't play the games on paper. Well, actually they do, but you know what I mean, Rodski said. The great thing about my team is that I have several players contributing, so if one is having an off day, the others can fill in we aren't dependent upon one person for all our scoring.
Last year Jefferson received a wild-card bid to attend the in Panama City and finished in 19th place.
