Academic Team Finishes Top Ten at National Championship
Jefferson Community and Technical College’s Academic Team made its mark at the National Community College Championship tournament in Orlando, Florida over the weekend. The College’s “A” team finished eighth overall, capping another impressive season for the perennial national power.
Jefferson’s Morgan Williamson was named an All-Star at the tournament. In addition, the “B” team finished 21st overall. This marks the eighth straight time Jefferson has reached the national tournament. Last year, the “A” team was ranked first nationally heading into the championship. They took home the title in 2016.
“After graduating the majority of our scoring from our “A” team last year, this year’s team had to work extremely hard to be a national contender,” said Coach Peter Rodski who is also a professor of mathematics at the College. “This group has been the largest and deepest team we’ve ever had at Jefferson. They enjoy working together and are truly dedicated. It’s been a blast watching them grow as a team.”
Jefferson amassed a 30-9 record this season with notable wins over the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University and Eastern Kentucky University. This marks the eighth year in a row that Jefferson has finished in the top eight. With several players returning next season, Rodski expects the team to compete for another national title.
