National Transfer Student Week Celebrates the Many Paths That Start at Jefferson
What comes after Jefferson?
For Jefferson graduate Ryan Staten, the answer was Bellarmine University, where he’s now studying art administration.
He says starting at Jefferson offered an affordable path and the chance to discover what he wanted to pursue.
“I would have never even thought about coming here if I hadn’t gone to Jefferson. I think it put me where I’m at today.”
Ryan is one of more than 5,000 students who have transferred from Jefferson to continue their education at a four-year institution. Jefferson has transfer agreements with 45 colleges and universities, both in-state and out-of-state, including more than 500 academic transfer pathways designed to make the transition easier for students.
Those pathways opened doors for students like Remani Fogle, who will graduate from
Bellarmine in less than a year with a double major in communication and sociology,
putting her one step closer to her dream career as a journalist.
As an Evolve502 Scholar, Remani attended Jefferson tuition-free, giving her an affordable starting point.

"It's a great opportunity, especially if you don't know what university you really want to go to yet," said Remani, who also received a transfer scholarship to Bellarmine. “I think it's a good way to just keep your college journey going without delaying anything. JCTC was a really great school, and everyone was so helpful and understanding.”
As a first-generation college student, Remani says the support she received at both colleges has been invaluable.
"Without the people at Jefferson and my advisors here at Bellarmine, I don't think I would be where I'm at today."
For Jalen Harbin, starting at Jefferson was not just a stepping stone to a four-year
university, but a milestone worth celebrating and a foundation that prepared him for
what came next.
"When I saw how much it meant to my family that I graduated from community college, it made me realize that this is still a huge accomplishment," Jalen said.
Now, he's looking forward to crossing the stage again soon, this time at the University of Louisville with his bachelor's degree in biology. Jalen transferred to UofL through the ULtra Program, which he says made the transition seamless.

He says starting at Jefferson set him on the path to success. Smaller class sizes gave him more one-on-one time with instructors, and his experience helped develop him into a more responsible, independent student.
"I'm grateful for them preparing me for college and beyond," he said.
