What is Medical Assisting?
Work alongside physicians as a multi-skilled healthcare professional in the high demand field. Medical assistants work in ambulatory settings, such as physician's offices, clinics, and group practices. The Medical Assisting program is designed to train students to assist the needs of the private physicians.

How Do I Apply?
The Medical Assisting program is a selective admission program. Students are not required to complete any courses prior to admission to the program but students with prior college coursework or medical experience will be given preference.
Pre-Admission Conference
Students are required to attend a Pre-Admission Conference or meet with the Program Coordinator to be considered for admission.
Pre-Admission Conferences will be held in Health Sciences Hall, Room 378.

This program is challenging and fast paced and requires students to be able to meet the following Technical Standards:
- Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to efficiently implement the skills required in performing medical assisting functions e.g., laboratory skills, patient ambulation, multitasking capabilities, and medication administration
- Sufficient communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, and written) to interact effectively with individuals
- Sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement their duties in a responsible manner
- Sufficient visual acuity, such as is needed in the preparation and administration of medications in the performance of laboratory procedures, and for the observation necessary for patient assessment and care
- Sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and members of the health team and to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as stethoscopes, fire alarms, etc.

Length of Program
You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status or the diploma track takes 16 months to complete.
